A Message From Mr. Ramirez...

As this new semester moves forward, it is very important to keep in mind that our students in grades 3-5 will be taking the new Smarter Balanced Assessments in May. These exams, which are based on the Common Core Standards, will be taken by using a computer. Students will be tested in Language Arts and Math. This test is taken only once a year; therefore, we must keep preparing the students as much as possible throughout this semester. Please assist us in making sure your child does his/her best on these important tests by completing all assigned work and studying every day. For further information on testing, please see your child’s teacher or visit the Smarter Balanced website http://sbac.portal.

Mattie's Foundation

Mattie’s Foundation offers a Peace Certification Program. We encourage individuals and families, educators and schools, businesses and cities, and more… to “Reflect, Respond, and Reach Out with Peace” during a certification journey. You technically did not register for the program, or follow the template that we send to participants. However, you fulfilled the PURPOSE of the program — clearly, you and your students reflected on Mattie’s life and message, and you all responded at a personal level to his life and message, and then you reached out to me and to others with lessons learned from Mattie’s life and message. Your book is a beautiful keepsake of that journey.

So, I am declaring your classroom now “Peace Certified by Mattie’s Foundation.”

Box Tops For Education

Morningside students are collecting box tops to earn money for our school. All you need to do is clip the Box Tops coupons from hundreds of participating General Mills products. Please remember to send your “Box Tops for Education” box tops to school with your child.

You can also visit www.boxtops4education.com to learn more.

Donors Choose

You can visit our Morningside School's  own Donors Choose web page, and choose a project you would like to see become a reality. If you can't find a project from your child's classroom, you can share this opportunity with their teacher and encourage them to submit a classroom project. Teachers can learn more and get started with creating a project at DonorsChooseLA.org.
